Some of Australia’s largest and most recognised companies are using Rapid Induct.
We work hand-in-hand with each of them to ensure that their induction system is
continually working to improve inductions and workplace safety. Here are some of
their stories.
How it’s working for them
Client: Cement Australia Challenge: With multiple
sites across multiple divisions all using a different induction system, Cement Australia
were creating an unacceptable risk.
Solution: By rolling
out Rapid Induct in stages across the organisation, they were able to create a consistent
message and effectively demonstrate their commitment to workplace safety. Now everyone,
from the GM to the employees and contractors who use Rapid Induct, is thrilled with
the induction system.
Client: Amcor Glass Challenge: As a rapidly
growing company, not only did Amcor need a smooth and reliable induction system,
they needed the flexibility to update their induction courses to deliver vital information
as safety information and procedures changed. Solution: Rapid Induct
provided Amcor with the ability to adapt courses, and create new ones, whenever
the need arrived. They could do it quickly and, because they were in complete control
of the information being communicated, they had the ability to directly communicate
the company’s own unique issues.
Peak Gold Mines: Eliminating costs of a 2-day contractor induction course New Gold Inc. is an intermediate gold producer with a complimentary portfolio of global assets in the United States, Mexico, Australia, Canada, Brazil and Chile. The Australian site is Peak Gold Mines in Cobar Gold Field, New South Wales.
Shane Mullins, Learning and Development Coordinator at Peak Gold Mines, says that prior to using Rapid Induct, “The induction process was time consuming and very expensive. Contractors had to complete a 2-day face-to-face induction and a site induction. Contractors would also charge Peak Gold Mines for their labour time to complete the induction, therefore this was very costly to the company for a 2-day induction course”.
“Contractors and staff now complete the online induction program before they arrive on site and they complete the practical component on the job. I no longer need to deliver the classroom training, therefore this has saved me time. We can pull reports to review if there are any literacy issues, if there are any inductees not understanding the content due to the assessment included”, Shane said.
When researching for an online induction provider, Shane found Rapid Induct to be the most cost competitive. “What we like about it, is that it is easy to use, needs little training to get started and the backup service from the customer service team continues to be great. At any time we can call or email and any questions or issues we may have and our questions are answered promptly”, Shane said.
“We are extremely happy with the system. It’s a good tool, our inductees find it easy to use and we always receive positive comments. The reporting functionality is fantastic. We like that we can decide on the expiry date as to how long an inductee can have to access the system to complete the induction”.
Beach Petroleum: Reducing total reportable incidents to zero Beach Petroleum is a long established oil and gas exploration and production company, based in Adelaide, South Australia. Denny Kotru, Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator, has reported that prior to using Rapid Induct in 2006, Beach Petroleum identified a need for significant improvement in their previous induction delivery methods. Since making the change to use Rapid Induct for employee, visitor and contractor induction, Beach Petroleum has reduced the company’s overall total reportable incident rate (TRI) on operated production sites to zero in 2006!
“Rapid Induct has allowed us to free up resources. We have a small workforce out in the field which was chewing up a lot of our time”. Denny said. “What is great is that the online inductions can be delivered before staff get to the site. This process operates more efficiently. When there is a site requirement change and information needs to be updated we can then reissue the induction to staff in order to complete immediately”.
“The main reasons that we chose Rapid Induct as our preferred online induction program provider are. A: cost was affordable and within our budget, B: ease of implementation and C: the biggest attraction was the flexibility and the fact that once the content is in the system, we own it!”
Earth Data: Pushing Rapid Induct to the limits! Earth Data is a provider of geological outsourcing, contract services and seamless advice to a broad range of mining and oil & gas companies with core specialties in Drilling Project Management and Coal Seam Gas Exploration.
Jess Maddren, Business Development Manager at Earth Data, has been extending her use of Rapid Induct from inducting staff to delivering technical training. Prior to using Rapid Induct, Earth Data was faced with many challenges in training and inducting employees. Their workforce operates in locations stretching from the top of QLD, down to Victoria and across to South Australia. Previously, safety training was being conducted face-to-face or via email - and they just weren’t keeping up. They needed a way of tracking and maintaining induction results as well the ability to train both experienced mining professionals and recent university graduates joining the organisation with limited understanding of OH&S.
It was Jess’s task to research for an online training and induction program. “We had a good look at the market for something that would utilise technology. We didn’t want an induction system that required us to have someone on site every time someone needed to be inducted”. Jess said. “Right off the bat, we could see how comprehensive it was. Rapid Induct is so far above anything else on the market”. It gives us the ability we need to adapt courses. That’s why we have been able to adapt it to use as a training tool across the organisation”.
With Rapid Induct, Earth Data now has an induction program that not only meets their induction needs but is also meeting their staff training needs. This gives both OH&S and HR Managers a single system for both tasks – as well as the ability to control inductions and training from any site in the company. The assessment component of Rapid Induct provides the ability to check each inductee’s competency by using a variety of assessment question examples. “The ability to add questions to our courses enabled us to gain the proof we needed to know that inductees and trainees actually understand the information”, Jess said. “We have the ability to write the questions and we can revisit any gaps with the staff”.
“When we have all our training courses up and running, Rapid Induct will be used for about 20% inductions and 80% for training”. Jess said. “We’ve been really pushing the system to its limits with our compliance training courses – and it’s coping easily with everything we’re throwing at it.”

information and workplace requirements without the need for time commitments from
internal resources.” - Dennis Casaretto, HR Manager, Amcor Glass
