GPT Group: 24/7 flexibility – because no one likes a 7am induction!

GPT is a property company focused on active ownership of high quality Australian real estate in the Retail, Office and Industrial/Business Park sectors. Located around Australia, GPT manages 12 shopping centre assets, and the Homemaker City portfolio. The Retail Portfolio includes regional, sub-regional and community shopping centres and bulky goods centres.

In the last 12 months, the GPT group has completed over 11,000 inductions for contractors and staff. With hundreds of stores across the portfolio, it was absolutely necessary to have an easy, flexible induction process for the many contractors that come onto site daily, as well as the availability to do so seven days a week.

Shane Barr, Operations Manager, GPT Group, says "We have moved from a largely inflexible induction process to one where contractors can complete their training in their own time". With induction courses being held as early as 7am, GPT wanted to provide their contractors with better options. "Since Rapid Induct was implemented at the GPT Group in April 2008, it has streamlined the way in which our contractors are managed onsite. It is far more flexible for both us and the contractors."

"From a safety perspective, the question/answer component of the induction helps us to identify any weaknesses early on that may need to be addressed. We have had some great feedback from our contractors too" says Shane.

McColl's Transport: Inducting their own drivers for partner company site

McColl's Transport is Australia's leader in the transport of Bulk Liquids. McColl's Transport’s National Training Manager, Ron Lewis, was part of the implementation process of Rapid Induct into McColl's. "We were keen to move to an online induction rather than our previous process where employees and contractors would simply read an extensive manual and sign off on it." Says Ron.

"Our old process was unfortunately adhoc and time consuming. It would take approximately 20-30 mins and often longer. The main issue was that there was no guarantee that it was done and there were risks that the information was out of date," says Ron. "We saw Rapid Induct at the Melbourne Safety Show last year. After comparing it to other providers, we chose Rapid induct as we liked the flexibility that we could put in our own training – and that it was fully editable".

"What we have also done that has been successful is set up an induction for our drivers to complete for another company that we work with. We had an issue where our drivers would go on site to another company and there wasn't always someone on site to induct them. To resolve this issue we converted their induction into our Rapid Induct system. It is very simple to issue a password to the drivers to complete the induction before they go on site and show their certificate as proof of compliance when they attend. This has saved a lot of time for the drivers", says Ron.

"The reporting functionality is used to report monthly to the board in regards to statistics of how many new inductions have been completed, the re-induction of employees, inductions completed for the other company and contractor inductions completed. This audit process has made it easier for us and has made a difference to our overall induction process", says Ron.
